Da Nang popular tourist attractions go by many different names.

In March 1924, the cathedral held its completion ceremony and was then known as “Tourane Cathedral.”

From February 1923 to September 1924, it was known as “Jesus Sacred Heart Church.”

The church roof features a grey alloy-made rooster, symbolizing “repentance” and “awakening,” as explained by the priest.

According to the tour guide, early sailors in the area used roosters to judge wind direction and predict weather, hence it is also known as the “Rooster Church (Con Ga Church).”

Exterior Style

The exterior of the Pink Cathedral is majestic, presenting a Gothic architectural style. The tallest point is the main bell tower, reaching approximately 70 meters high, surrounded by 10 smaller towers. It is the largest typical Western-style church in central Vietnam.

Interior

The interior of the cathedral is only open during Mass times! If you want to experience a visit, it’s best to go during those hours; otherwise, you can only admire the exterior of the cathedral.

Mass Times: Weekdays 05:00, 17:30 / Saturday 17:15 / Sunday 05:30, 15:00, 16:30, 18:00

Confession Times: Thursday and Saturday 14:30-16:00

Rear Stone Cave

It is said that behind the cathedral lies a replica of the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in France, symbolizing “holiness” and “peace.” Unfortunately, we did not make it to the rear area.
