Alishan Attractions – Indigenous Tsou Village

Address: No. 127-2, Neighborhood 4, Leye Village, Alishan Township, Chiayi County, Taiwan
Opening Hours: AM09:30–PM16:30
The Alishan Tsou Cultural Village is also called the “YUYUPAS” Tsou Cultural Village.
“YUYUPAS” means “prosperity and well-being” in the Tsou language. Outside the park, a large parking lot is available for both small cars and tour buses.

On the other side, you will find a spacious public restroom. The symbols on the outside mirror the vibrant and enthusiastic spirit of the indigenous people, making it quite interesting.

Ticket Office

The on-site tickets cost NT$300 per person, with NT$100 redeemable for purchases within the park.
Booking through KKday costs only NT$200 (valid for three months).

Gift Shop
Next to the ticket office, a small gift shop sells indigenous woven bags, wood carvings, jewelry, Alishan tea, wasabi, and other local specialties.

Cultural Exhibition
Only 6,000 of the “Tsou” remain among Taiwan’s indigenous peoples. The cultural museum displays artifacts from their daily lives, including hunting tools, wooden instruments, clothing, and specimens.

Park Scenery
The park is filled with flowers and plants, emitting a delicate and tranquil fragrance when carefully smelled.

Inside the park, you’ll find two iconic landmarks of Alishan. Be sure to take a photo before you leave!

Alishan’s Zou tribal cultural village is located at an altitude of 1,300 meters and often experiences mist and rain, so it is recommended that you bring an umbrella for your visit.

The scenery is serene and inviting, free from any overgrown vegetation. The presence of mist adds a sense of mystery.

The Tsou tribe follows a patrilineal social structure. They use distinctive landmarks to ward off evil spirits and pray for peace in their area.

Tsou Restaurant

The Tsou indigenous restaurant offers family-style dishes served on large round tables and charges per person.
Nearby, an authentic barbecue shop sells boxed lunches, but unfortunately, they do not offer them during the off-season, which is less accommodating for individual customers.

Original Flavored Barbecue Small Shop

During the off-season, when boxed lunches are unavailable, they sell souvenirs such as sausages, dried pork, and wasabi.

Sausages NT$50

Warrior Boxed Lunch NT$150
Boxed lunches can be costly, but you can enjoy authentic Aboriginal flavors like salt pork, sausages, and chicken wings.

The Park Café
Since it was drizzling, we went into the café for a cup of pour-over coffee and some snacks.

The Tsou Tribe Coffee has received awards from 2018 to 2020, making it a must-try for coffee enthusiasts. The freshly made morning desserts are visually enticing.

Cappucino NT$180

Cheese cake NT$180
The cake is adorned with a ripe strawberry, adding to its visual appeal. With its delightfully light texture, the cheese is generously topped with a layer of cream, creating a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

Tsou Mochi NT$150
The mochi has a firmer texture than typical mochi, which is usually softer and comes in peanut and sesame flavors.

Aboriginal Performance Theater
Two performances are scheduled in the park at 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
The tribal employees have multiple roles, including ticket sellers, barbecue attendants, and baristas. When it’s time, they gather at the theater.

The host mentioned that the park has been operating for 13 years without government subsidies. They have endured the pandemic independently, which has been truly challenging for them.

The performances include traditional indigenous dances and original songs, each showcasing the distinctive cultural traits of the Tsou tribe. They are dedicated to promoting their culture with great care and effort.

The on-site staff will offer samples of dried meat and mustard for tasting.

Tsou Traditional House

In traditional tribes, family members live together in the same house and share their hunting and agricultural produce.

Tea Plantation Area
The park provides tea-tasting services, and the Jin Xuan and Black Teas are delicious even after multiple infusions.

The park isn’t huge, but the Tsou indigenous people meticulously manage it. It’s well-planned with vibrant activities. I highly recommend everyone come here for tea tasting and performances.
